girling 2b pushing pedal back

The Girling 2b that came with my Plus 2 was, according to the PO, completely rebuilt.
It has however been sitting around in a box for perhaps 10 years.
Now the car is in one piece I find that there is power assistance to the brakes, but that the pedal when depressed,
pushes back firmly against my foot.
I have carefully researched possible causes, and there appear two.
First is that the brake lines to the unit are reversed. (closer to the drum goes to the master cylinder)
Or alternatively that there is an internal problem with the servo.
I have sourced from the UK a kit for 135 quid which I am assuming will be required, but has anyone had this problem, and has anyone located the source of the problem in the course of a rebuild?
Regards,
Bill

This is my experience FWIW. When I bought the car, the garage said there was a problem with the brakes and they rebuilt the servo and replaced the master cylinder. However, occasionally the pedal would alarmingly go almost to the floor before the brakes applied, and fairly regularly the pedal would push back. I did the same researches as you, and obtained another servo for rebuilding. However, before I did this the brakes started to "pulse". Inspecting the brakes showed both brake discs to be quite heavily pitted (especially in one area about the size of a pad - indicating they may have rusted on at some point?). Also, on both sides the inner pad was far more worn than the outer. On the drivers side, the outer pad had plenty left, while the inner was down to the minimum.
Anyway, I decided to completely overhaul the brakes, and rebuilt both calipers with new seals and stainless steel pistons, and replaced the discs and pads (GreenStuff). This fixed the pulsing, but to my surprise all the other problems disappeared as well Now I can finally understand the reports of the +2's excellent braking, whereas before they were rubbish

Unfortunately the pushing back and pulsating occur while the car is stationary which convinces me the fault is somewhere in the booster.
But what to look for?
But what to look for?
