rear springs

I am doing a nut and bolt rebuild of my '69 S4. After rebuilding the rear it now sits way high and hardly moves when I stand on the rear Y of the body and bounce (no interior). It has new gas struts but I am assured it couldn't have that much effect which is in line with my own thinking. The only other thing I can think of it the springs (yes the bushings have not been tightened). The springs were blasted and powder coated. Is it possible that the heat of the powder coat oven tempered the spring metal making it stiffer?
We are supposed to be having fun, are we not?

I don't think so (if anything they'd be weaker).

Depending on the amount of weight still missing from the car (esp. the rear), either the shocks add too strong of a spring effect, or something is not operating correctly would be my guess.
