The path from the grease nipple through the upright goes straight to the bottom of the upright. If grease is going in it must be reaching the bottom of the trunnion. It is possible that the grease it working its way back up to the seal in a channel and so not fully flushing the trunnion. It is also just possible that the grease in your NS trunnion has stayed clean.

This can, and has, run and run!
Miles Wilkins supports grease on the basis that any water ingress will float on it and leave the lubricant intact, whereas water would sink through oil and start rusting the pin.
I use oil on the basis that it always fills the space whereas grease might form shapes and squeeze out leaving space for air and water. My present uprights have survived 27 years and 90,000 miles so far and were only fitted due to a little wear after 110,000 previous miles.

I imagine you jack the car up before greasing so the lubricant can flow everywhere inside the trunnion
