Wheel Straighteners

PostPost by: billwill » Wed Jun 22, 2016 1:05 pm

I think I might try resurrect a steel Elan wheel that I bent back in 1978.

Does anyone know a good wheel straightening firm within reach of North London?

Bill,

I was unable to find a company to correct my wheels. However, reviewing my post on this subject I found someone suggesting a company called MWS contact is Craig Ellis phone 01753 598387. I don't know where in the country they are.

I ended up replacing the rims, and welding them to the centres. I bought the rims from a German company Mefro. I am fortunate in having a lathe just big enough for the job. I employed a local engineering company to do the welding. My car is a long restoration and not running yet, so can't say how successful I have been.

Hmm, they only mention wire wheels on their site, but it should be worth a phone call.

I see they are in Slough.

Several possiblities come up when I google [wheel straightening]

I used them about 20 years ago when they were still in London.

Charged ?50 per wheel for a full recondition and paint on my then S4. Very good job too.

Seemed expensive then, a bargain now.

+1

We use them for allot of our wheels and never had a problem with them. They do specialise in Wires but they will take on anything.
