Play in Handbrake Caliper Pivots

My +2 is through the MOT again but I had an advisory on play in the handbrake calipers. The handbrake itself works OK.

If you grab the calipers you can rock them a good few mm on their pivots, and there is play between the calipers and the main rear brake caliper body. A steel shaft is set into the main caliper to provide the pivot. Can this shaft be removed?

If not, I could fit some shims each side of each handbrake caliper to eliminate the rocking, but I would prefer to remove the shaft and calipers, and enlarge the shaft/bush the calipers.

This sort of play is responsible for a lot of the rattling you can get when going over bumps - especially with the windows down!

Classic car Automotive refurbished my calipers and they re bushed the handbrake pivots and fitted new pins so it's all doable

Thanks to you both! I'm spoilt for choice on which way to go.

When I do it I will try and remove the rod myself - otherwise it's off to ClassicCar Automotive.
