DCOE40 identifying question

Hello all,
I'm a new member, but not a Lotus owner (although I may indulge, one day).
I've got an unmatched pair of DCOE40s that I bought years ago to fit to my Hillman Imp racing engine, but it never happened.
So I have these carbs and was wondering what they came from. Somebody told me they were probably from a Lotus, so I thought I would ask here.
They are both "made in Italy" castings.
The specific details are:
Carb 1:
TIPO DCOE 18T
No: 8L
Carb 2:
TIPO DCOE 31
No. 1457
Any help in identifying them would be appreciated.
Thanks
Daniel

DCOE Tipo 18's were the main type of Weber model from early-ish production through to mid S3 production. (The very first ones were 40 DCOE 2's on the very early cars). 31's were used on late S3's, non-Stromberg S4's, and some Sprints. (Dellorto's also used on Sprints.)
The 18T 8L was a late version of the 18.
Where they differ (in standard form), is on accelerator pump stroke, progression holes in the body, and obviously the jetting & choking between standard, SE and Sprint models. Everything can be changed with the exception of the progression holes in the carb body, and because of that, they wouldn't work well together, so best to sell one, keep the best one and find another to match. There's always plenty about on Ebay, seen some over the last couple of weeks.

Thanks for the reply, and the interesting information.
So if I had fitted them, I would have had problems balancing them.
I don't need them any more because I sold my car, so I was interested to understand their history, with a view to selling them.
Can I advertise on this forum?
Daniel

Thank you Eric,
I doubt I can write 30 posts on Lotuses. At least not only on Elans.
Ok, I'll see what I will do.
The carbs are in Germany with me at the moment, and I won't be home (the UK) until February. I say that because posting things from Europe and vice versa, thanks to Brexit costs a fortune, now. So I would bring them over with me.
Therefore I have a bit of time to think about it.
