Weber problems on new 160 hp engine in Cincinnati

Rohan, my dyno guy, RIP, dynoed a 1690cc T/C with Dave bean 150hp cams. Fitted to a Caterham 7. It pulled from 2-7000rpm with absolutely no issues. Head work was minimal. Actual hp was 147.

Hi Chris
Yes you can certainly build a 150 hp 1600 or 1700 cc twin cam with a good flat torque curve suitable for road use with minimal porting . With good porting you can push that to 170 hp at 7000 to 8000 rpm, without much affect on the torque curve in the mid range, The key is a short duration cam ( 285 degrees seat to seat) with the highest lift possible (typically up to 0.440 max can be fitted into 285 degrees)

As with most things in life it’s what you do with the tools you are given and not necessarily the size of those tools that makes the difference.
