S4 choke cable fitting

I have an s4 on stromberg and, as part of my refurb decided to fit a new choke cable. Purchased the correct s4 stromberg version from one of the usual (I have checked web and all look to provide exact same version).

Am i missing something as it simply doesnt fit in the bezel. The new fixed round head wont drop into chrome bezel, and the thread section too wide for the hole in bezels!

Before I try my solder skills out have I missed something obvious.
