+2 lockable filler cap mod help pls

PostPost by: RichC » Tue Sep 27, 2016 3:55 pm

. I'm very happy with the grooved filler neck i bought from sjspares to go with the lockable filler cap i acquired ... but there is a problem ....corresponding with steve at sjspares he is unable to help me with a longer rubber elbow which is required as the new filler neck is 3 " shorter than the old standard one .
Can anyone suggest where i might find a version of the +2 rubber elbow but with the extra length?

I had a top hose made by these boys when I fitted a Burton stat housing/filler.

I am sure they will be able to help

silicone may be better for fuel odour too?

& jon , thx for that I'm just looking and thinking 76mm is abt 3" so i'll check measurements with original.
it says for coolant and air , but nothing about fuel (!) . would silicone be OK with petrol?

Rich,
I fitted a new locking cap (from SJ) last week to my non-locking neck.
At 3 inches difference, I would return it and use a dremel for 5 minutes to produce the slots.

Rich,

Just an example in the link. They will make whatever size you want and I don't recall it being expensive.

I think there may be two grade of silicone, one being for use with fuel.

I'm not so sure about silicone pipe for fuel. IIRC, they can handle splashing but not immersion, and given the layout on a Plus 2, when the tank is more than half full, there is the probability that fuel will sit in the pipe for long periods.

I sourced a flexible hose specific for fuel, i believe it is called Ultra flexible fuel filler hose 57mm / 2.25" (from Car Builder Solutions on ebay) - it has spiral wire reinforcement.

I did the same......
got a new locking cap to replace the non locking cap and used a dremel to cut the slots

If someone sold me a six inch ruler and it was only three inches,I'd be disgruntled....

I have been doing the same + doing the venting mod. [on the bench] I found it difficult to get the cap [this is not from SJS] to close and had to reduce the depth of a rubber spacer that sits under a central spring [sorry, not able to post a picture currently].. .did you have the same issue ?

No problems with the locking cap (from SJ) it's made by Candless (or whoever), but could be an Indian or ping pong repro :?:
Just cut the slots at the sides and replace the roll pin. No worries with rubber thickness. Looks and works great :D

well guys i did consider cutting notches ...... but decided against it . The new filler neck looks a 'proper job' with stepdowns to the notches and as i'd already faffed around getting the rollpin through it and following that, with plenty of lubricant, managed to pass it through the new rubber panel seal , i decided that was that !
I've found and ordered standard 2.25 " fuel filler pipe so will receive that before the weekend hopefully ..
