No idle

PostPost by: alfadave » Sun Jun 19, 2016 9:16 pm

I have a 68 plus 2 with weber DCOE 40 151 carbs.
I started the car on Friday after a period of inactivity.......it started, and ran fine.I left it ticking over to warm up.
Next day,it started but wouldn't hold idle, and was "fluttering" on throttle.
I had this problem before, and after cleaning out the idle jets it ran fine.(I do have two in line filters, but the problem still seems to appear.)
So,I carefully checked the idle jets, blew compressed air through them, checked the jets were clear.
I fully expected the car to run ok, but the problem is still there.
I have not made any other adjustments to the car.
Does anyone have any suggestions......as the car is undriveable as it stands.
Thanks
Dave

Dave
How many percentage of carb problems are electrical?

A ( or four ) Colour tunes would help find which cylinder also an I/R thermometer aimed at the exhaust manifold pipes, failing that a quick dab with a wet finger ( Don't tell H&S I said that )

Change one thing at a time, and re-fit if not problematical

Check the points gap ( on all four cams),wiggle the shaft.
Plugs
H.T.leads
Plug caps
Condenser
Rotor arm
Points
Distributor cover

Failing that it's off to the dark depths of carb balancing...

Sounds to me as if warming the car up by leaving it ticking over has fouled the spark plugs somewhat.

Just sorted it chaps.
Dirt had got past the idle jets.
I took out the progression hole inspection screws, and cleared the holes with air from a bike pump and adaptor.
Now running and idling fine.
