Oooh Me Jiggly Trumpets

PostPost by: Stevie-Heathie » Fri May 13, 2016 6:38 pm

The trumpets on my Webers are all secured with two tabs each as God designed, but only one of the four is fully secure.

The other three are a fraction loose: you can spin them and jiggle them a tadge despite the nuts being nice and snug.

Is it normal for one's trumpets to wiggle, or can I use this as an excuse to buy another Lotus?

Best
Steve

Steve,
Bend the tabs so that they grip properly.
Also please add some method of preventing the nuts coming off if they should loosen themselves.
I use a dab of silicone sealant on the exposed thread. The stuff used in the bathroom.
A free nut can get sucked into the engine, and I believe that can spoil your whole day.

Thanks Eric.

My +2 sucked one of those nuts into cylinder 3 in 2001. Yes it was not good. They're all blue loctited on the S3.

Bending the tabs would work, thanks for the tip.

Steve
PS My better half is from Worsthorne, one day I'll venture up there with her to visit the outlaws in the S3. Would be great to meet up!

Why must you have an excuse to buy another Lotus?

Steve,
Sorry for the delay responding, we were walking in the Dales yesterday.
If you make it up this way, I would be delighted to meet you and chat Lotus. It appears that we have the same model of Elan.
As your wife will tell you it should not need much of an excuse to visit lancashire.
Contact details sent by PM
Cheers
