Tank straps

PostPost by: shaun » Sun Apr 03, 2016 6:27 am

Hi could some one let me know if the tank straps go round or in front of the rear cross member,I've spoken to a couple of very helpful members but got two different answers at the moment trial fitting tank so no foam strips under the straps but if fitted in front of the brace the straps which I made direct copies of the old ones seem to long ! Any help or plctures would be appreciated

They go in front, sorry about the dodgy photograph.

Hi Shaun, Yes - as John says they go in front of the brace as per your photograph. I remember asking the exact same question a couple of years ago when I picked up my Plus 2 from Option 1 /Paul Matty. I had fitted an ali tank courtesy of Andy Wiltshire and reasoned that, by passing the straps ahead of the brace then that would help to locate and anchor the tank.
In discussion with Paul Matty techies I commented that surely, if the straps were meant to pass in front of the brace then they would have some sort of shaped section to fit snugly around the brace - was politely reminded with a smile that this was a Lotus - not an Aston......... :D

Cheers,
