Weber Throttle return Spring comes out.....

I have the standard airbox with Webers on my Elan. The throttle return spring engages one end in a bracket off the airbox & at the other through one of the Weber throttle levers like:
Over time the return spring keeps on working part way out of the hole in the throttle lever until it is cocked & only through the first hole. The side of the spring then rubs against the carburetor body & the throttle does not close properly.
Anyone have a way to stop the spring from working it's way out?
Would a starlock washer be a good solution:
The spring material is too strong to bend after assembly... maybe a tie wrap?...

I threaded the length of spring that protrudes and put a nylock nut on. Sorry, I cannot remember the thread spec.

Similar to Dave, I used a Marr electrical connector brass inner part (set screw type.) Tried the bending the wire trick but aside from being stiff, is a pain if (when) you want to remove the carbs. When I had the 151 carbs on with the extra boss on the side the spring backed out a bit and fouled the boss causing the throttle to stick open. I like the threading and nut idea.

Phil, I am not sure what an elec. chocolate block is, I was referring to a household electrical connector produced by Marr, that are readily available I would think, I am in Canada so most of that stuff is common with the US.
I could mail you one if needed, they are cheaper than the stamp

I think the term chocolate is the common English name for:
Thanks for your kind offer, I'm going to Lowes this evening, let me see if they do them, or if they look at me like a Martian (like they do when I ask about Taps, Torches or Hose pipes...)
It's nice to have options!

I cut off the inner end of a brass UK domestic electrical pin complete with its screw. This fixes on the free end of the spring spigot. Works well. Similar to the chocbox connector above.

A neat solution would be to drill a hole at the end and install one of these but the metal might be too small.
If it works, however, be sure to use a washer between the clip and throttle piece.

OK, another way to skin the cat: assuming you have 1/4" or so of protruding throttle return spring and can't find a suitable starlock washer, how about purchasing a small spring that fits tightly over the return spring? Essentially, a tiny version of the spring collar in the picture below. I think this would work better than a tie wrap.

Way too small for one of these Greg, but you might get away with a small hole, say .040" or less & safety wire.
