Fuel pump seal.

A couple of days ago I tracked a more than usual petrol smell to a weeping seal underneath the glass bowl on the fuel pump.
Other than buying a rebuild kit, ( which will put me off the road for a week, or a month if I order from Susan Miller....), does anyone know of a source for the seal on its own ?
I don't really want to just cut one out of any old piece of rubber sheet as I don't like the idea of it quietly disintegrating and letting petrol spray around the engine bay.
I have modified the seal that was in an old brake master on the basis it should be solvent tolerant but have yet to fit it. An offcut meanwhile is sitting in some petrol overnight to see what, if anything, happens.
Any thoughts ?
Ralph.

Might be a bit late but an old trick to make a Bowl seal is to remove it, clean it up well then put it in boiling water for a couple of minutes then refit (making sure the bowl and the seat on the pump is clean)
As long as the seal is not cracked this usually works
I have bought just the seal before now from E-bay, the Pump is very common and i know here in the UK there is always a few on like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NOS-LAND-ROVE ... 2331c153a9 (not the best example as its expensive) just ask the seller what dimensions it is before you buy to be on the safe side.

The seal passed the petrol test so is now installed, and so far the car hasn't turned into a mobile funeral pyre....
I'll remember the boiling it up trick though, never thought of that.
But then I don't know everything, got a wife for that....
Thanks,
Ralph.
