Throttle Cable Fittings

I'm embarrassed to admit that I've lost the cable guide that goes into the DCOE throttle lever, Weber p/n 45048.007. :oops: Now that I have the carbs reinstalled I can't start the car!! Does anyone know where I can get a replacement? It's the little cylindrical piece of approximately 9.5mm diameter by approximately 11.5 or 12mm long that the throttle cable sheath butts against and through which the cable itself passes on its way to the air cleaner back plate mounting point. I can't find this part in the Lotus Elan parts book nor in the Weber Tuning Manual. Can anyone help? Thanks.

If you mean the "throttle barrel - screwless nipple" then Qed have them look on their website under carb - ancillaries

I've adapted ferrules purchased from Flanders cables (flanderscables.com) with good effect, as well as made them from scratch from aluminum bar stock and a drill press. I see Flanders is now stocking the slotted stepped down ferrules, which should make it pretty straightforward.

Oops. Misread your post. Looks like you were referring to the "throttle barrel" pivot. That can be made from steel bar stock pretty easily with nothing more than a drill press and a hacksaw. The one I made from an old bolt is still in place 24 years later!

I think Lotus originally made them the same way by cutting a bolt. As far as I can tell the one on my Elan is original and has been made from a bolt

Possibly. The proportions look slightly different and there are no dimensions listed but it's certainly a lot cheaper than the one from QED!!

At 20 GBP it has to be the most overpriced item of hardware I have ever seen!

I bought one this spring from Matty, it was certainly cheaper than that.

The QED item certainly looks a lot nicer made than my Lotus original for the 20 pound price at least

Ok. I took the advice on the Forum and hacked up a bolt (actually a lag screw as it had a smooth diameter above the threads!) - hacked being the operative word here. I have a drill press but nothing to hold the workpiece except visegrips. A hacksaw and Dremel and a needle file completed the tooling. I will probably try a better version but this one will allow me to try and get the engine running again. 8)
