Intake gasket or none?

PostPost by: Pistacchio sprint 72 » Wed Aug 21, 2013 4:48 pm

I installed clive's T to route extra cranckase pressure fumes to the floor instead of my air box.

While i was doing this work i noticed there was no gasket between trumpet to air box back plate ( no big deal) but there was also no gasket between the back of the air box and the carbs.

This annoys me as on my crossflow i use this kind of corck gasket between the weber and the rear plate of my k&n filters.

Sadly i only have an old one lying in a cupboard, nevertheless it is enough for a picture to show you my point...

So gasket or no gasket? Whaddaya think? :mrgreen:

Option 3: Make another one from sheet gasket material & use the one that you have as a pattern

I know that it is not critical, but it bothered me also not to have them, I bought online from eBay.

I had some from a previous weber rebuild kit. However when I fitted them I found it difficult to satisfactorily seat the trumpets - they seemed to be too proud.....Difficult to describe !!!

So I left them off.

Do u rember if these gaskets were made of cork or from some thick paper.

I have hard time to find cork ones.

The trumpets on the elan are no good. The best design is when they sleeve in the carb and are maintained in place from the outside...

Mine were thick brown paper like this;

I had no issues with the trumpets.
