PostPost by: bob_rich » Fri Feb 08, 2013 10:18 am

Hi Folks

On an original fuel tank where the bolt that hold the fuel feed out banjo is very tight, as is the drain plug, what sort of torque would the tank take if I have to really "heave on it"

sure others have had this problem

thanks in advance 4 any advise

I guess that the amount of weight you can put on the tank fittings will depend to some degree on how thick the 40 year old parent metal is, tanks can corrode on the inside as well as the outside. Maybe a good application of penetrating oil 24hrs. prior to starting will help, also use a good fitting socket.

When I took the tank out of my +2, I tried to undo the drain plug with stilsons & the metal around the weld started to twist,
so I left it well alone, refurbished the rest of the tank & put it back in.
