petrol tank straps

PostPost by: graham » Wed Jul 18, 2012 9:33 pm

Hi can somebody tell me if the straps that hold the petrol tank should pass in front or behind the suspension cross brace. I have just had tank out to clean and have fitted electric pump but banjo holes full of rubbish - can they be drilled a little bigger?

Hi Graham

When I refitted my tank I passed the straps around the cross brace, effectively securing the tank to the cross brace and the floor. I'm not sure if it is correct but seemed right to me. Make sure you put something soft between the tank and the cross brace as there cold well be some fretting. I used foam from a camping mat.

Good luck

Thanks Andy- My car was in boxes when i rebuilt it.My cross brace has the insulation on it and it showed marks where the straps had been but I had to redrill holes in end of strap to get it to fit. I will look at refitting as yours is.
thanks Graham

The tank straps do not go around the cross brace.

Hi Guys

Take a look at the photos in the "Leather Interior" thread, this shows a fuel tank with the straps going around the cross brace.

On mine it does not go over the cross brace. There are strips of rubber that go under the straps to prevent chaffing.
