Popping

PostPost by: davidj » Fri Jun 04, 2010 12:00 pm

Hi,

My engine running well apart from a "Popping" noise from the exhaust when I take my foot off the throttle at about 2000rpm. Acceleration is fine. Is this a sign of running weak or rich? I should add the engine has a QED head and cams, electronic ignition and has been set up on a rolling road.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

For what it's worth I believe it could be either.....too much fuel-the excess being burnt in the exhaust or too lean a mixture to fire in the cylinders but igniting in the hot exhaust....not much help really except to say that your mixture is out somewhere

John

P.S. I used to love the "popping on the over-run",but now I'm after fuel savings (Fuel Injection) it no longer does this..

You should search the archives, there's a number of good posts on this.

An exhaust leak has been the cause for me in the past (and present).

Thanks very much for the link. Very interesting. I will give the suggestions a go starting with manifold/exhaust leaks.
