new petrol cap leaking

The only thing I can think of which may help is to bend the catch down slightly to make it close a bit tighter. The one I bought for my car (non locking) was fine but the quality of a lot of the replacement parts seems very variable.
If you can send it back to the supplier, it might be worth trying one from Norton spares supplier (60's 70's Commando) Perhaps less likely to leak?
Sorry I know it's not much help
As an aside, and FWIW I would have retained the non locking cap. The problem is, if the b*ggers want your petrol they're gonna take it and if it's a locking cap it's no real deterent and they will probably damage your shell and paintwork in the process.
