Voltage stabilizer needed for S2 fuel guage?

PostPost by: pamitchell » Tue Sep 26, 2006 3:32 pm

My friend has a S2 with a twitchy fuel guage. I suggested he wire in a voltage stabiliser to solve the problem. The S2 wiring diagram doesn't show a stabilizer in the car.
Would the stabilizer cure the needle flutter?
There is some tach bounce as well but he as a MSD ignition box which I suspect is causing the tach bounce.
TIA

My S2's fuel gauge also jumps around but I dont think it a case of the voltage changing, I think it is a different type of gauge and I dont think they are "damped"
I doubt a stabilizer would cure it, its part of the "charm" of the early cars
to see the fuel gauge show "full or empty" when going round a corner .......the gauge is just there to tell you if its got fuel in not to tell you how much
Tell your friend to carry a piece of wood dowel to dip the tank....I do

I am sure there should be a voltage stabilizer

... Check behind the speedo and tach.

This electromechanical type does go wrong from time to time. Check it is properly earthed. If it is no good replace it with a new one.

You can use better solid state ones - look on ebay.

Also, try searching the archives here for more info.

No Iain, Phil is quite right, there is no stabilizer on the early cars as borne out by the wiring diagram.
