Starting after been stood for a few days.

Same with mine. After a run last Saturday, it sat until Monday evening and just a pump and it fired right up. Now it's up on jackstands for the next few weeks while I wait for new tyres and get my rims painted so it will probably need another six or seven pumps when I try to start it again!! :roll:

Like i say - it depends on many factors including fuel type, time, temperature, storage conditions, state of tune, overall engine and electrical system condition etc etc etc

Hard starting after 5 days is not common but is possible in some car in some circumstances. The frequency of hard starting occurences will go up with standing time but that does not mean it does not occur after a week in a few cases

Nice day here today, (up till now!) so I took the Sprint out for a run this morning. 1st time used or run since the Silverstone event. Half a dozen pumps of the throttle. Started instantly.

I thought I'd resurrect this thread to report that we had a really nice run out in Little'un today :D

My reason for posting is to say that despite not being started for about 5 months all it took to start the Elan was a few cranks to pull the fuel up followed by a couple of prods and full choke at which point she burst into life and idled sweetly. (the choke being dismissed after a few seconds)
This is without a fancy battery, high torque starter, electric fuel pump or priming pump. All as she left Hethel except for a Powerspark instead of points/condenser. :wink:

Hope this weekend bodes well for a long hot Lotus summer here in the UK :D

Just my luck! Having had the Elan on the road continuously, and occasionally soaked, the weather blossoms just as I have to strip the engine out to replace the ring gear. Not impressed to find two broken head bolts which were ?15 each in 2007, no wonder the radiator bubbles a bit.

Now that summer's arrived :lol: I thought I'd resurect a number of the old "classics" currently littering my garage, none of which have been looked at since about November. My 1976 Suzuki two stroke started second kick, the '78 Honda 400/4 took about 10 secs of cranking and juggling with the choke and the modern(ish) CCM 600 single did nothing until I drained / refilled the float bowl. It then started normally.

The Elan, despite me spending the rest of the day on it, wouldn't start at all. The last couple of years (since a carb rebuild) its been a reluctant cold starter if left for any length of time - must be a ignition problem :lol:

Amazing what a little sunshine will do, I too decided to check the +2 over Saturday with the intention of a Sunday blast. For me it was full choke, three or four pumps of the go pedal & with a flick of the key she fired up & ran for a few seconds & then stopped, presumably emptying the float chambers. Another few cranks & she burst back into life & with the choke gradually reduced to none, settled into a sweet idle. This also after about 5 months slumber & without any mod?s except pointless ignition :D
The eagerly anticipated Sunday blast didn?t happen, as instead I ended up wedged in the back of a sweltering airing cupboard doing some unexpected emergency DIY !! :evil: :evil:
If only everything in life was as reliable as a...........Lotus :shock: :)
