fuel check valve

This one came from a very early Ford 1.6 crossflow engine that could have been fitted to a Transit as well as Cortinas etc - circa 1968. There must have been others that used these pumps and I'm guessing if it was fitted to Transits then other "luggers" may have used them too. As the Transit was a "work horse" and customers relied on them for work they wouldn't be happy if they couldn't start the engines when needed hence a little helping hand!

I haven't seen any others in this fitment before or since but I did look at the Triumph type ones and it's true some do have a priming lever. However, the lever that drives when the engine is running is a completely different shape so wouldn't interact with the jackshaft fuel pump lobe.

They are definitely a good idea though. I've never used it but there's nothing to it and the internal parts are pretty much the same as the standard AC pumps used by Lotus.

I see that DemonTweets do the rubber bulb primer pump.

An interesting article on bulb primers:

And here's a replica pump with primer lever, that might fit our Twin Cams

I think we would need to drill a hole in the primer lever and fit a rod that poked up through the space on the cylinder head input ducts, with a loop handle on top.

Here's one for a jeep:

If you change the fuel pump, you need to make sure the replacement supplies the correct pressure. My understanding is that the pump fitted to the elan was a lower pressure version of the one Ford used on the same block. They look the same.

Good point, but you can add a pressure regulator/filter unit mounted alongside the front carb, like what I have on mine, to regulate my boot mounted electric pump.

I have spent (but not opened and put together to use) a schrader valve ( from a fuel injection test port) between my strombergs.
My bulb pump will fit with quick connect test-port adaptor (again from fuel injection)
Clear tube up top
Like bleeding brakes

This seem to be costing $50, so I am not sure if it is really worth it or not.
Although the mechanical hand primer pump is surely close to $100

SJS lists the priming type mechanical pump
$50
So my $40 is close. But my pump is not broken yet!!!
