Not a cheap option is it!....

No, but it is worth it, just so much more driveable. I converted my Elan over nine years ago, best thing I ever did to the car.
I'm using K6 (other ECU's are available) and Jenvey's with swirl pot in the boot, fuel PR infront of the radiator.
HCA that's a very nice engine bay.
A couple of pics of mine.
Whichi size of throttle bodies you've installed? Have you had your head ported?

Hi,
I'm using twin 40mm TB's, jenvey did not make the heritage bodies then. Yes the head has been "home" ported and it has sprint valves installed. I'm also using a QED 360 cam and a 711m 1600 crank with 83.5mm pistons giving 1700cc and a CR of 11.2. It does run OK on 95 octane, (now E10) but I always try to use 97/98 octane as it's E5. While converting the car I also made sure everything was E10 compatible.
Hope this helps
Cheers
John.

Hi David,
Could you please tell me more on the QED kit you've installed? Wich size of throttle bodies did you install?
How user friendly the software to program the injection is? Have you done the fuel mapping fine tuning yourself or you had everything done by an expert?

Quebec_elan+2,
If you go onto the ECU manufacturers web sites the software is normally a free download, then you can have a play and see how you get on. You will need a PC rather than a Mac though. Also on the Emerald and SBDmotorsport (MBE) sites there is lots of good general info on installing EFI.
Cheers

Quebec, Assuming you are in North America, you may want to look at Megasquirt for the ECU , its a well know entity here and you should be able to get support and guidance on how make up a kit based on parts you can get from the local auto parts store. I used a Megasquirt 3 ( goldbox ) running full sequential and Jenvey heritage throttle bodies - mission was to make a race motor streetable and still have it look stock(ish) .

This is interesting but...
Did someone provided you with a Base map suitable for your particular engine with the Magasquirt ECU?
How you've accomlished your project? Do a specialized shop did all the work for you? Let me know more.
Because I see an advantage working with a company who could supply me wit a complete kit based on my particular engine, instead of trying to find all parts by myslef.

Do not get into a knot worrying about the components. EFI is made up of few components. The most important one is the ECU - search for one that supplies all the wiring, simple user-friendly instructions and maps to your needs. This is the most important component to choose.
Many, such as Datafast, Megasquirt and ME will refer you to a distributer who will put a package together for you. Emerald will supply you with a shopping list of parts to suit your application that they will source for you, but you can easily buy these separately and cheaper - throttle bodies from Jenvey (or AT if cost is an issue), trigger wheel from Triggerwheels, and pump from Sytec. Tanks and swirlpots are a subject of their own, there are many fabricators familiar with the Elans you can use.

As John of Omnitech points out, the big valve Stromberg heads are better flowing.
If your going Fi, why not?
Patton Engineering sells the kit, programable, or preprogrammed. If you go preprogrammed, you just send the chip/board for a new flash if your not happy. But, givin’ your exact engine spec’s it will be very close. Include head flow, exhaust size, valve etc… Note, as Patton has sold the programming to a large company, support will be offered ongoing.
Stromberg carbs and heads are still cheap in N America. Suppose shipping is faster and likely cheaper from the UK, than the USA.

For suppliers - look at EFI source and DIY Autotune - they can provide most of what you need in a kit .
Base maps for lotus twincam on Megasquirt , nope , you'll have to do that. First go around worked on the project with with a combination of enthusiasts for the FI and a vintage race car shop that had an interest in doing the project. We used Tuner Studio to set it up and them used the auto lean mode to have the software built out a MAP ( you drive the car around with the laptop plugged into the ECU). This process produced a map that was acceptable ... Second time around I used a specialist with a rolling road dyno to tune the car top to bottom - much better result -
my recommendation would be to pay an expert in your particular ECU to tune the set up on a rolling road dyno. at least with the Megasquirt I came to the conclusion that the result you will get is commensurate with the time you have invested in the tool ( software/ECU ).
In the end its a not what i would call a cheap endeavor ( especially if you decide ascetics matter ) - having also done a Tremec T5z conversion i would tell you if you could only do one , do the 5 speed ..

Thanks for these insights. Seems like doing work on a rolling road dyno is a must, by all my lectures. My next step is to find an expert near where I live.

Very neat setup with the megasquirt. What did you use for a cam signal for the full sequential?

Hi
I am just putting together a 2.0 Zetec engined plus 2 and was going to use the original ECU seeing as it is very sophisticated. My other plus 2 is going to use the Lotus Twin Cam and I was thinking of using the Zetec 1.8 ECU for that along with GSXR 600 throttle bodies. I have most of the parts already. If it does not work out then I will not have spent much, and if it does then happy days!
All the best

Zetec+ 2 under const, also 130S. And another 130S for complete restoration. Previously Racing green +2s with green tints. Yellow +2 and a couple of others, all missed. Great to be back 04/11/2021 although its all starting to get a bit out of control.
