Ditto.
I have one of those with a screwdriver style handle and a squared end onto which I fit the appropriate size socket.
Makes doing the lower nuts on the carbs dead easy.

It is Strombergs nuts that the extension works on? It's just that I can't visualise how that would fit for the awkward one. Fine on the rest but a combination of the float bowl and the top of the footwell restricts access to the left hand bottom nut and you can only really get to it from the side. I haven't taken the carbs off since the summer so maybe my memory is iffy but I can't imagine a route for the extension. If it does work I'll kick myself for not seeing it for all these years as there two or three of those extensions knocking around in the tools.

Well, I have to admit that mine are Dellortos so I can't be sure about the Strombergs.
Do the Strombergs require the slightly different right-hand engine mount that lifts the carbs clear of the footwell shelf?

Agreed ...I can't see how that would work either there just isn't room to get it in there......

Stromberg engines use the same standard mount both sides and clearance below the rear carb to the top of the footwell is minimal.

Ah, I see,
For those I would try a ring spanner with a slightly offset ring.
A ratchet ring spanner would be nice, but I suspect there isn't enough clearance for the greater size ring on those.

That's almost exactly what I do use but once it's on the nut you can only get to it with your fingertips so it's very easy to drop when you're trying to move it to the next position on the nut. I made up a short (3" or so) bar that loosely pivots on the ring at the other end of the spanner to get easier movement while a finger tip from your other hand goes round the other side of the carb to hold the spanner in place. That, of course, comes after you've got the nut in the stud threads in the first place.

I too love reading about these different approaches vs actually performing them. My easier and I don?t smell of petrol...
I?m a ?recent? ?lan owner in this crowd (only since 93) but have also had Europa and Volvo?s with Strombergs.
Since these carbs are mounted with spring washers and ?O? rings, I just put on that pesky carb, finesse the bottom nut(s) on and turn finger tight. Then I lean on the carbs pushing them towards the engine, and tighten the top nuts. Viol? the bottom is now tight too.
That way I can limit my use of sawed-off & bent wrenches to my 2CV oil filler tube and carburetor nuts.
