Advice on Air filters

Thanks for your comments. Can someone please confirm sizes for me. Ive just measured my, i have 45mm external depth twin dcoe filters.
I think ( i know its dangerous for me to think) that i can get 100mm external depth filters or air box. Problems that may hinder are,
The top of the inner right arch
A spindle held in with a splut pin on peddle box.
Having said that, again dangerous, but i think i have clearance for 100mm all round including front and rear away from fouling.
It looks like i can fit a filter like i posted and then ill have internal clearance for 50mm trumpets.
Or
Looking at it, i could possibly fit a 100mm air box, there may well be room for a pipe to go forward to a remote filter. This would allow fitting of slightly longer trumpets.
If anyone can confirm dimensions for me that would be great.

For maximum performance from the air box, you need a minimum of 1.5 times the diameter of the air horn, from the end of the air horn to the inner edge of the air box. In other words, 60mm for a 40mm carb. Most of the standard air box covers severely restrict the rear carb.

Regarding dimensions, not sure this will fit your situation. But, for an S4, LHD I think I probably have the largest possible airbox that can fit without body modifications. It has a depth of ~140mm. Just fits.
Also, even with a very large alloy radiator was still able to fit the trunking hose connected to a K&N filter in the nose. The hose had to be compressed and persuaded to fit.

Can anyone tell me more info on the part number, price and suppliers of the K & N or similar filter that sits in the nose to replace the standard air filter. It seems a good idea on the basis that it will allow more air to get to the front of the rad and I guess the filters only need cleaning occasionally. I assume that they don't restrict air flow any more than the standard filter would.

I fitted a K&N to mine on the end of the hose. A few comments:
1) I think I used RE-810 or whatever one you find recommend on this site if you search. Personally I think at 9" long it is over sized for the needs of a twink. I think 6" would probably be sufficient and save some weight.
2) The hose fits over the inlet and can be secured with a jubilee clamp
3) I bought standard K&N bracket to mount it in the nose:

Which works but there is nothing to prevent it from rotating but friction which isn't enough. I did this as at the point in time a K&N Filter + K&N Bracket was ~1/2 of the available Elan specific kits.
At ~$95 the premium isn't that much over the universal parts so I would do that now.

I did fit a similar part, KN RE-0920 (less than ?45 shipping included a few years ago), and made a holding bracket out of a piece of aluminum flat laying around so that it is stays to the side out of the cooling air stream to the radiator. I'm sure it's big enough for my engine, and not that heavy (plastic, rubber and fiber fliter).

Ive decided im going to stick to the Ramair at 100mm. Its not that much cash and will be better than what i have, small filters with no ram pipes.
In the future i may well swap to a tailor made air box solution.

Im getting it with an additional blank base plate so if required i can cut it to suit the lotus breather and the air inlet temp senser.
The above part number gives a different size air filter to the lotus part number.
I think the lotus part number wont fit because the filter will foul on peddle box.
If it fits fine and theres space to spare, i can always swap it for a bigger version.
This will also allow fitment of 45?45mm jenvey trupmets which i currently dont have fitted.
