Beat me to it! I was just about to post the same when I read Stu's response. Stu, you might want to check on the angle from horizontal at which HIF6 units are supposed to be mounted. I considered putting HS6s on my +2 many years ago and found that the Twin Cam head for Strombergs angles the carburetors up more than is typical for SU installations. With SU HS series carburetors this is not an issue because the angle of the external float chambers can be changed with optional "clocking" inserts. These fit between the carburetor body and the float chamber. You can't adjust HIF series that way. I have a very comprehensive SU catalog and unit description manual from Burlen Services, I'll see what they say about mounting angle for HIFs. I wonder if you have any subtle driveability issues that might be traced back to the mounting angle. Glad you had fun with the track day.

Stu,
I should have done a quick on-line search first. Apparently the SU HIF series are quite flexible in terms of the range of mounting angles. Apparently the design includes mounting angles ranging from horizontal to 40 degree downdraught. The TC head is well within that range.

Thanks for checking Russ. I did have terrible drivability until the magician fixed it on this trip. Gotta be happy if the car returns driving better than when you left.
Got the muffler welded & oil changed today, so all set for the return trip.
Cheers!
