About 20-years ago the tank on my S2 had a pin hole leak on the underside, but little rust on the outside. I meticulusly ground the outside to bare metal and laid 1-2 layers of matting over the entire exterior and saturated it with polyester resin. To this day, it is still leak free. Maybe I'm lucky, but the in-ine fuel filter shows no rust collection. Total cost about 15 USD plus a weekend of work.
