No lock, no leak - when I used the car regularly I never had a problem .

Mine did leak, but I fixed it! (smug grin)

I have a locking one which turned out to be vented - there was two small holes in the seal carrier top and bottom. I filled the bottom one with solder and now appear to have no leak!

Thought I'd cured the smell inside too when I replaced the filler hose and re-secured the breathers but that has returned after I filled up :?

No lock, leaks but only when the fuel tank is very full. I replaced the thin rubber seal retained by the cap and gained precisely no improvement.

This should be posted in the +2 forum, Cleggie; afaik it has never been an issue with the +0 Elan because the tank is under the boot floor and does not have those vent pipe thingies found in the +2 luxo-barge!

Cheers,
Pete.

On my former 1965 S2 a leak developed at the weld joint where the cap assembly joined the down pipe. Just a thought.

Well then,It looks like there is no connection between the lock cut-outs and leaking petrol caps, but it is an issue, one which I am determined to overcome, as when I do have my expensive re-spray I do not want fuel pi**ing out all over the rear quarter....

If anyone has any suggestions, they're welcome...

By the way,I recently fitted the breather adapter to the fuel filler pipe and it has cured the fuel frothing back when filling up..

Far too soon to tell yet,I've just made a replacement seal from some neoprene and not had any "spirited" driving yet.....

I'll be back in touch as soon as....

Dear All
Have just got back from the Huddersfield autojumble, set off with the fuel light flickering and gave it some over Holme Moss, the light was permanently on when I arrived and no fuel over the 1/4 flank,so filled it to the brim and set off back using the same "spirited driving " techniques,my God it's a cracking stretch of tarmac on an early Sunday morning, and on my return inspected the rear paintwork....All clear....I don't know who suggested it but maybe soldering the two vent holes (one either side) and fitting a new neoprene seal seems to of done the job....

Many thanks all...

John

P.S. does anyone else returning from a nice blast have a silly grin all over their face?

Where did you get the new seal? I asked Paul Matty and he says he only sells new caps with a seal and Sue Miller says she does not sell them.

Hi

I tried to get a new rubber gasket from the usual suspect with no luck, so I dropped Steve at SJ Sportscars LTD an email on the off chance, but not really expecting much. He emailled me straight back and to my surpise and delight to quote him "I have hundreds".

I have never used SJ before but will be using them again, after speaking to Steve on the phone I ordered 10 gaskets at ?1.20 +VAT. Cheap as chips and a really nice bloke to deal with.

They came today and are a perfect fit, I am well pleased :D :D

If anyone else needs them the Stock code is = SJ026L0007 and their telephone number is 01363 777790.

At ?1.20 much cheaper than the ?45 Paul Matty said I would have to spend on a new cap. :D
