Warning - float fault fire risk!!!!!!

Just a quick post for your information/attention - regarding a float problem in a Stromberg which could easily have resulted in a fire.
On my S4 Elan -
I only ever use E5 Super unleaded.
All rubber pipes replaced with Cohline E10 compliant.
Running the original clear bowl fuel pump.

Prior to setting up the carbs I was advised to check/rebuild them - so a kit was obtained from a reputable UK supplier.
From the kit I only changed the rubber diaphragms & floats & valves.

Fast forward less than 400 miles - rough running when cold.
Remove air box to find pools of fresh fuel which was coming from front carb under pressure.
Remove float bowl to find one side of float completely full of fuel.
This appears to be a manufacturing fault on one float which would not be visible to the naked eye.
The float is being returned to the supplier for further examination & I am reinstating the old floats.

This may just be a 'one off' defect - but could have had disastrous consequences.

Cheers
A

You can get a float for the Stromberg which is made of closed cell foam rather than the traditional hollow construction, which loses buoyancy if cracked or pierced..and its resistant to ethanol too..
