Took my carb apart to find a PO had broken the float pin casting and cobbled up a repair, so looking either for another cover/lid or repair.
I seem to recall somewhere on the site a while back, somebody had suggested a suitable repair, but cannot locate the article, if anyone has a pointer I would be grateful.
Thanks
Tony

Hi Tony,
I had a similar situation a couple of years ago whilst adjusting my floats. It is a known issue.
Webcon can carry out a very professional repair to the lid casting.

If you let me know which Tipo number carb yours is Tony, I may have one available, (presuming you have an 18, or a 31 ?).
I'll have to look in the garage for it, but pretty sure I have both which are good,

Hello Steve
Thanks for responding, the full Tipo number is, 40DCOE18
Mine has the brass floats so is consistent wthr the Tipo number. Would be grateful if you could have a look and see if you have one.

Yes Tony. I can recommend.
They made a perfect repair for me a couple of years ago when I hamfistedly and embarrassingly tapped the pin out in the wrong direction and broke the float spindle bracket off. I was very pleased with what they did (almost invisible repair)and thought it preferable to a replacement lid.

Tony, will have a look over the weekend, and come back to you, if that's ok.

Hello All
An update for those that need a repair to the float lid mounting for the float spindle. This is a common problem where people try to force out the brass spindle or hammer it out. I recall reading many years ago that there is a right and wrong way to remove the pin, to prevent breaking the posts.
When removing push the pin towards the split post whilst supporting the post (I use a a small socket held either in a vice or flat surface). When installing, push in from the split post, cleaning the pin before installing and using a smear of grease allows you to push the pin in when installing. When removing you can (if you don't have the correct size drift) use a drill bit of a slightly smaller size.
Although Alan suggested Webcon for a repair, they no longer provide this service, but here are two links I have spoken to that can do the repair,
1.Eurocarb, they currently charge £59 + VAT and take around two weeks, contact Robert

2. Classic Carbs Ltd, they charge £100 including VAT and again take about two weeks, contact Gavin

Hi Tony, just searched the garage, and can't find a Tipo 18 lid anywhere unfortunately. I felt sure I had one, but could only find a couple of later 151's (plastic floats), and a 31 (which I want to keep for the next project).
Apologies, I'll keep my eye out, and if I do find one, I'll let you know.

Hello Steve
Just picked up your reply so apologies for delay. Thanks very much for searching the garage, but sorry to learn not a Tipo 18 to be found, if you do come across one then please let me know. I am currently following up a lead to repair mine, but how successful that will be I don't know. There are one or two lids out there but due to the variations in the castings needed for different applications, it seems the older lids are a little more difficult to come by.
So thanks again for looking
