Help identifying fuel filler cap

PostPost by: ROADRUNNER » Thu Nov 02, 2017 10:32 am

I'm going through some spares that came with my latest project, and amongst them was this non-lockable fuel filler cap. Does anyone here have any idea which series this would have come from ? Thanks in advance.

Looks to be similar to my '72 Sprint which I think is the same as S3 & S4...

Looks to be non-lockable?

It's just the standard non lockable. Probably found on many Elans and certainly Plus 2s. I have another spare if you're starting a collection. Plus a brand new lockable one with very slight scratches, should anyone be looking for one! :D
Where, then, lies the answer? In choice. Which shall it be: bankruptcy of purse or bankruptcy of life?

Thats the original ceandess presto 75 cap http://www.ceandess.co.uk/

I had a chat with the company a while ago and the original S4 caps had no grooves on the button, later (around 1972) it was changed to the Groove type but both types are still in production. I believe for many years only the Groove type was available which is why many cars have the wrong one fitted if they have been rebuilt (not that it makes allot of difference)

Bike spares companies seem to offer best prices.
Unfortunately most seem be imported and quality is variable - had to look at a few to get a good one.

The last one i bought was from "sjsportscars" and it was a locking type for my TVR 3000M.
I needed to add a washer to reduce end float on the locking part so it would work correctly.
Finnish is good and stops someone from putting nasty things in the fuel tank

They also come in vented and non-vented versions. The one on the +2 is non-vented. I believe the cap on the S4/Sprint and Norton Commando is vented.

You can buy them online directly from ceandess here: http://ceandess.online/product-category/presto-75

Though at that price you'll be better buying it from the usual Elan suppliers (assuming they're genuine ceandess ones). If you need one it might be a good idea to get one soon. On the ceandess page all the locking caps are shown as "out of stock". Clicking on one shows the message:

**DUE TO CAST TOOLING ISSUES THIS PRODUCT WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE**
