Fuel gauge stuck on full

Hi
I filled up the other week (Elan Sprint 72) and noticed that the gauge isn't dropping from full despite doing some miles... When I turn off ignition, it drops to zero, then back to full when I start up again.
Please can anyone suggest some checks / fixes?
Thank you.

Maybe the float is stuck in the up position, maybe the wire is earthing, disconnect the wire at the sender and report back...

So - all my rooting about my have solved the problem.
Disconnecting the sender wires does drop the gauge to zero. Then with a direct connection between the two sender wires, the gauge rises to full.
Reconnecting them to the sender, I'm now getting a 3/4 full (not permanently full) gauge reading. Measured the resistance and got a multimeter reading of about 30 ohms. Does that sound right for a 3/4 full tank?
Am hoping that the float arm was sticking on full but has since freed itself...?

Hi
I think your reading of 30ohms is about right.
when I repaired my fuel gauge I checked the required resistance to get the various readings on the gauge
and these tied up quite well with what the sender did. have attached the notes from my rebuild diary for info
hope this helps best of luck
