Electric Fuel Pump Again

PostPost by: ftsoft » Sun Jul 03, 2016 9:24 pm

I have had a Facet Posi-Flo efp3 pump installed for a couple of years. It works well when the car is running down the road, but makes a horrific banging sound when the car is idling. If anyone has one of these, is this normal? Could this be air entering the inlet line? Any experience with other pumps that do not do this? Thanks.

I fitted a Webcon low pressure pump in the boot of my FHC. It is specifically designed to be compatible with Weber carbs. It is completely unobtrusive when the engine is running.

Hi,

I have a facet (not sure what #) in my S4 and I can hear it before I crank it, but not when it is idling unless I listen carefully. I did put some padding between the pump and the boot where I mounted it.

ETA: I have a pressure regulator on it.
Could the pump be vibrating against the body?

remount it, it is rattling against something. They do make noise that you will hear, but it should not annoy you

Usually they clatter when the carbs are empty[pump makes long strokes actually moving a lot of fuel] and quiets down when needle valve shuts[pushing against solid column of liquid]

Thanks for the replies. The pump is mounted on rubber bushes and the banging doesn't seem to be from anything hitting anythinlng else. I've tightened the clamps on the inlet side and put grease around the fittings. Doing this has quieted it down at least temporarily, so I will rework the inlet side of the fittings to ensure no air is getting in.

I avoid the "hammering cube" Facet's just because of the noise. Even though they are reliable and every parts store has them. My old MGB is now owned by a friend and has well over 100K on the Bendix pump that I fitted to it USED in the mid 1970's. Facet has now acquired that pump and call it their "Gold Flow". They claim it is their most reliable pump and I can confirm that. Not near as noisy as the "cube".

I have my Facet barrel style pump mounted with a couple of two stud rubber isolators. It is now quiet as a church mouse.
