Fuel filler pipe

Started to put the first fuel in my new tank and quickly noticed (luckily) that there was a leak somewhere as the boot floor was flooded with petrol . Tank out, checked drain plug and sender unit and they didn't seem to be the cause. Tried again and this time noticed the leak was from the filler pipe. There is a some misalignment between the tank pipe and the filler pipe so the rubber pipe connector is not quite straight. I've tried to tighten the clips as tight as I can, but my question is should I use some form of sealant between the rubber and ali pipes eg silicone or the black non-setting stuff used for windscreens. Or maybe I should double up the clips. Any suggestions most welcome

In the marine world we have always souble clamped nearly every hose- make sure to do yourself a favor, offset the tightening mecahisms by 180* and make sure the screws face outwards so you can reach them both from the final installed position.

I would also consider why the mosallignment problem now exisists. What has changed since before? New hose? New tank?

New tank, but problem is now resolved. A smear of sealant, repositioning of clips and a bit more welly and all now seems fine. Thanks for all the helpful suggestions
