Broken Lug!

Hi all,
After deciding to refurbish my Weber 40-31s myself, I have now had them both stripped down and all seems reasonably good, but when I removed the float pin from one carb - disaster - arrrh!
As you can see in the picture the lug holding the pin has broken and I bet this is not the first time it has happened, it seems like a fracture waiting to happen (the broken piece is being held by pliers).
Has anybody got a cure for this or is it hunt for a replacement time?

As there is no load on the lug, I would suggest making a small plate to mimic the shape of the lug out of aluminium - 1/16" thick would probably be sufficient. You could then drill and tap the remaining post say 12BA and screw the plate to the remains of the post. If you don't feel confident to tap such a small size then you could use a couple of brass rivets peened over either side, made from brass wire. There's a company called "Eileen's Emporium" that sells all sorts of materials like this, primarily for model makers. You might even successful epoxy the plate to the lug - though exposure to fuel might soften the bond in time.
