Cold air intake swap

PostPost by: Pistacchio sprint 72 » Thu Sep 11, 2014 6:24 pm

Tomorrow i will take part in the Jean behra historic rally. I received today a complete cold air intake system from cliveyboy. At first i was hesitating because i was short in time... But hey, you only live once!

This is the classic air filter canister system:
- a bit heavy
- obstructing air flow for the rad
- my ducting was may be 40 years old...

However i ranked a second place at my last rally using a k&n round filter instead of the paper one, so i am also totally happy with the historic set up.

The kit came complete:
-Air duct
-2 collars to tighten it at both sides
-1 huge k&n air filter with its alloy base and allen screws /bolts/spacers

The quality is really good. Shiny piece of kit!

I had to open my air box so i took the opportunity to check the tool i got from alex black ... I topped up the fluids. Worked perfectly fine for me! 8)

I removed the historic air canister and installed the k&n.

Then i cut the correct lenghth of ducting.

Attached the ducting to the kn and the other side to the air box...

And here we go!

I like :
- it?s lighter
- it is low profile and does not prevent air flow.

Testing starts tomorrow with 800km of rally in the mountains!
To be continued

I shortened mine right back so it's on the side so as not to obscure the rad anymore than it has too.
Good luck with the rally

Hi,

Although you do not have time before your event, you may want to check the fuel mixture. If there is a significant increase in airflow over the previous set up, the engine may now be running a bit lean. If it is, that would allow you to richen the mixture & improve HP a bit. If it was already rich, then this will take advantage of the extra fuel that was not being used. Good luck & be safe on the event.
just looking for clues at the scene....

I was a bit on the rich side. During a previous rally, the car would run on 3 cylinders in the morning on the way to the event. I spat on the manifold to spot the cold one. Then i unscrewed the spark plug which was indeed fouled black and replaced it. Turn counter clockwise quarter of a turn the fuel mixture screw.

Good idea though. Will check the spark plugs after the event.

Kid on the way to be dropped to school.... Then off we go!!!!
