Weber: Standard Jets, emusfication tubes and air correction

PostPost by: mbell » Thu Jun 13, 2013 7:16 pm

Hi,

I looking for recommendation on what Jets, tubes and air correction jets to buy for my standard Big Valve engine with weber carbs. The cars been in storage for 20+ years and a previous owner prepared the car for storage, including removing these parts from the carbs. Unfortunately they got separated from the car at some point before it reached me. So I need to purchase new full set of jets, air correct and emulsification tubes before i can get it running.

In the box of bit I got I?ve found a single F2 tube with a 180 air correction jet but nothing else. I know the air jet isn?t standard according to parts catalogue, I am not sure about the tube. The spark plugs clearly show the car has been very much on the rich side last time it was run.

The parts catalogue states the fuel jets are 120 and air correction is 155 for my car but doesn?t identify the emulsification tube. Should it be F2?

Given the change in fuel since the catalogue was print I was thinking these may no longer be the best combination. I?ve spent some time reading threads here but I am only really finding information people tuning their carbs up when they are having issues. (Sorry if I missed the key thread on this.)

What I could really use is some feedback on what other people based the US are using to try judge what is a sensible initial setup to get the car running. Something I can use to get it running and then fine tune it afterwards.

What are you guy?s running or do you have any recommendations?

Thanks!

Try Sidedraft Central on the Yahoo Group pages:

Several Elan owners there and plenty of info on emulsion tubes for Lotus twincams and Webers.

Here?s what the manual says. 33 Chokes are hard to get. I?ve choosen 32 for a QED360 camshaft (very similar to the "Sprint" one), but I haven?t fired my engine since...not ready yet with the valve clearances.

Thanks Gary, Marode,

I posted on the DCOE Yahoo group and have ordered some hypojets. Gone for the Emulsion Tube #O3 (doesn't require a standard air jet) and "Hypojet Insert - 20 thou" for the idle jet. The suggestions seem to be 115 for a main jet on this setup, a few people with similar setups seem to be using 120.

Hopefully this should be good enough to get the car running again, until i have the rest of engine tested and sorted enough to do a proper tune of the carbs.

Now just to try identify the rest of the messing bits from the carbs I need to order. So far spotted the idle and main jets/tube, Holders for these, cold start lever. Just wondering if anything else is missing?!?!

Then the fun of the re-build of the carbs will begin!
