New 40953 Stromberg spec distributor

PostPost by: promotor » Sat Nov 17, 2012 9:53 pm

I'm struggling to get hold of a 40953 Stromberg spec distributor - does anyone have any recommendations on where to get a brand new one from, or a second hand one? I have a few ideas but wonder if anyone has any ideas where to go, or have any experience of a distributor company being able to build a distributor to a desired spec?

Shouldn't be too hard but there are a few companies that provide "Lotus" distributors but they only provide one advance curve to fit all different types of engine which isn't a good sign!

Any help much appreciated!

You could try getting one made to order - you won't get a 23D with 40953 stamped on it but they should be able to give you the advance curve that you desire.

Take the advance curve to the likes of Accuspark, H&H, or Distributor doctor.

Hi,
Try Luke at Wosperformance.co.uk

He does distributors with any curve you require.
Also the source for starters, alternators etc which you see being sold by loads of suppliers

Very good to deal with.

Thanks for the info. Distributor Doctor is on my list, as are H&H, but I'm wary of Accuspark as I've no end of problems with orders with them.

They're just up the road from me and Luke was hugely helpful when I was buying a starter motor a few years ago but it seems like they've gone trade only now. Might be ok if you want 50 distributors though

The Wosperformance website doesn't make any mention of distributors so i guess you're right.

Still got a few leads though so thanks to those that have responded.

Hi Promotor
I have a 40953 distributor which ideally I'd like to exchange for a 41189 and a set of parents in Derbyshire which is apparently where you are located.

PM me is you want to try and sort something out.

Cheers

Morning Nigel,

I'm not sure if i want to swap a 41189 for your parents and a 40953 - are your parents useful? :D

Seriously though, I'm interested but not sure if I will be able to help with a 41189 distributor as of yet, but I will contact you in the future if I still need a 40953, maybe a deal could be done.

Cheers.

Parents are useful at times  you'd be surprised how many Lotus buts have travelled the length of the country in the boot of my father's car. I'd be willing to sell the 40953 distributor but I do need a 41189. They seem to be more common on Ebay, so if you're not in an immediate hurry then we can see what turns up, or maybe someone on the list has a 41189 they'd be willing to part with?

Hi,

Have you tried the usual suspects for Lotus Parts?
Paul Matty?s catalog lists a Stromberg, alternative 43D Part Number MDIS026B at ?140 on last years price list.
