carb misab plates

PostPost by: hartley hare » Wed Nov 10, 2010 12:34 am

does anyone know if the thackeray washers on the carbs are a special type or just normal thackerays?
i seem to be having a problem getting the correct "wobble" on the carbs,if i tighten the nuts to correct clearance on washer coils, the carbs seem too rigid.
if on the other hand i tighten so the carbs feel right, the nuts feel too loose (plain brass).....
the plates are the nylon type and the o rings are not distorted...

also has anyone used the more modern, thin plates, with the moulded insert, and soft mounting, cupped washers and rubber cushion, that are available on ebay and ford rally stores etc....

thanks in advance.....

I use the modern moulded one piece units with thackery washers on the bottom and rubber and cup washers on the top with nylock nuts this is the recommended assembly from Dave Bean

The amount of movement of the correct assembly is only a mm or two at most with hand pressure from full up to full down at the carb trumpets --- it is not a lot.

without nylock nuts yes the nuts will come loose the thackery washers are not lock washers
as far as I am aware the thackery washers are just standard ones not a Lotus or Weber special
use thackery washers on the bottom as fuel leaks destroy the rubber ones quickly
use rubber ones on the top as vibration and the weight of the carbs hanging on the top ones causes the thackery washers to fracture quickly.
