Is this just regular French 95 octane or is it something from a separate pump? I've just come back from 1500 miles in France in my elan and used the normal 95 octane without any problems. I added a bit of Castrol valvemaster octane booster / lead replacement additive whenever I remembered - about half the time, but didn't notice any difference with or without.

Ethanol is not corrossive by itself or in blends with normal gasoline. The problem is that ethanol dissolves water in the gasoline and ethanol mix which does not normally dissolve in straight gasoline. This mobilises water in the fuel supply chain and helps carry it through to your engine. The water is corrosive and brings with it other corrosive contaminants as well, typically in the form of chlorides and sulphides. Corrossion of fuel tanks, carbs and metal supply lines is due to the water and contaminants not the ethanol itself.
Alcohols such as ethanol can effect some rubbers and plastics used in older fuel systems but buy now after 40 years you or the DPO should have replaced any of the old plastics and rubber in your Elan with newer replacements and you should not have a problem. If you do its time you erplaced the components nayhow.
cheers
