LOTUS ELAN PETROL TANK FROM ANDY WILTSHIRE

PostPost by: ttaunton » Sun Nov 30, 2008 7:44 pm

I have just bought one of these beautifully made aluminium tanks, and consider it a thing of beauty! Superbly made, speedily despatched, beautifully welded...what more can I say?

I bought one to.... EXCELLENT. And the fixings are better for securing the tank. A tapped boss underneath rather than studs. Recommended.

Andy will add a return line so later you can convert to FI. Just ask him before he ships.

I am currently in discussion with Andy about a FI tank.

I asked him what he has in the way of fitting an in-tank pump ? to which he replied in a very negative way due to major issues relating to Caterham problems. Does anyone know exactly what the Catreham problems are?
My main issue with a built-in swirl pot for an external high pressure pump is the space to put two pumps.

If anyone has done this change I would be pleased to have details.

I just had Andy fabricate a long-range tank for my Elite. This is a copy of the competition tuning tank supplied by Lotus in the period. I can't say too many good things about Andy, a real pleasure to work with. I didn't think to ask about a return line though. Do you think a Megasquirt system would be out of line on my FWE/FWB?

Beautiful work! Anyone know whether he converts his tanks to fuel cells for racing?

Andy says he can supply foam-filled tanks with various filler options at his web site: www.andywiltshire.com
You would to well to contact him directly with your requirements.

Jerry I asked Andy that exact question a couple of weeks back - he does not do bladder/fuelcell work.

However, if you like the tanks , send the can to ATL and they will fit a bladder, but really, it would be a shame to cut one of andy's tanks.....

I just thought to let you know I just received my new tank from Andy - as has been said before it is a thing of beauty and should go on show and not hidden when fitted in the car. See picture

The design was specified by me in order to fit a Mondeo high pressure in-tank pump for the fuel injection system I'm fitting.

I've just bought and fitted one of Andy's tanks too. Absolutely lovely and extremely comfortably packed. No more petrol smells in my Elan.
