Tetraboost lead additive

PostPost by: hatman » Thu Jun 23, 2005 10:52 am

After doing some 'desk research' I've decided to start using Tetraboost to mix my own leaded 100 octane fuel. Problem is Tetraboost only sell in eight-container boxes - enough to brew 900 litres of juice which, at c27 mpg, will last for about 5,000 miles. With an annual usage of no more than 1500 (weekend dilettante use only I'm afraid) the stated 3-year shelf life of Tetraboost could mean that some of it would end up wasted. Anyone fancy coming in on a fifty-fifty basis for a box of the stuff? That's sixty quid (including post) if you're interested. I'm in Surrey.

Save your money . Dont use additives. Use Shell Optimax. No harmful effects . Guarenteed 98 octain by Shell. But usually 98.6..Also loved by older vehicles. No pinking . No valve seat burn out. Dont forget we are classic owners not 40000m company reps

Russ, Don't doubt your word, but on what basis do you say Optimax won't cause valve seat problems. Do you mean on the Twin Cam engine specifically or any engine ie with cast iron head?

I was refering to the lotus tc . and other alloy headed engines. This debate has been going on for years. The main people who think your engine will be distroyed by running unleaded without additives are the suppliers of the aforesaid products. As i said earlier only doing a couple of thousand miles a year aint going to make your valves dissapear up into the intake and exhaust ports.

Hi guys ,I am running TetraBoost in my 1971 escort mexico. I have run the car which is tuned , on this stuff and it works fine I removed the head after nearly a year of motoring and was happy to see NO sign of damage to valve seats etc . I had this car tuned by the late Tony at Redline tuning in Slough 20 yrs ago.Just before I removed car from road he rejetted this for 4 star which was commonly available then . I have since reset carbs Dellorto dhla's 40s,
I had to rejet carbs and richen them across the board Emmulsions, pump jets, idle jets and holders .
I purchase my fuel from a garage that still sells 4 star on the forecourt this is unleaded fuel that is splash mixed at the fuel depot with TETRABOOST .The Tetraboost has Ethanol guard 15 which will neutralise ethanol in modern unleaded fuels this can be as much as 5% -10% ..5% being most commonly used today,Ethanol produces water if f left in steel fuel tanks will rot them from the inside , not only this it also attacks alloys, brass, steel and even fiberglass resins... so on a car with carbs this is not good at all !!
This stuff really works and has been a lifeline to my car,as the head has'nt had hard seats fitted . It also boosts octane rating.. Octane can be increased to as much as 106 ron dependant on mix strength .. I go for around 99 runs fine for me 100 ml will mix 11.25 litres of fuel to around 100 octane

WE have not had access to leaded gas in my area for 25 years

I re-did my head in 1993 with hardened valve seats

never a problem, in what over 30k miles?

I'm slowly getting through my last batch. It's an incentive to use the car more !! I must admit I didn't realise it had a shelf life...

I have toyed in the past with switching to 98 octane fuel but for these reasons I haven't:

1) I've tried running the car on different levels of octane & the car is happier at 98-100.
2) latest versions of Tetraboost contain the ethanol inhibitor
3) availability of high-octane fuel - I like to be able to fill up anywhere. Nothing worse to stop at a filling station & find the only operable pumps sell 95 octane

Just my thoughts !!
