Help needed on weber conversion

PostPost by: gsminors » Fri Mar 14, 2008 12:44 am

I am getting very near to the end of this conversion. I need a little help.
How does the throttle cable link to the carbs. I have a new cable to go on but I can not see how it is attached. I may be missing a bracket. If anyone has a close up photo of the linkage it would help me allot.
Thanks

Hi Geoff.

At present my Weber carbs are in the process of being stripped, cleaned, etc.
As is the engine, gearbox etc. etc.
So cannot show a photo of it all connected up.

Trust the following will be of help.

On the bottom of my air box is a bracket (see photo), the cable comes from underneath to the bracket.
From the bracket, it goes up to the throttle lever on the carbs. (see photo). Sorry this photo is out of focus, but hopefully you have these components to hand. If not I can retake the photo in macro.

Geoff,
Here are some pics of my Delloto carbs but they work in the same way as Webers although the return spring is different for Webers.
As per Trevor's picture the cable (nipple) is located in the fixed bracket that is on the air filter back plate, the cable first passes through the swivel link in the carb linkage with the outer cable also located in the swivel part of the linkage, when the accelerator pedal is pressed the outer cable pushes on the carb linkage to open the throttles.
There is a return spring that hooks on the air filter backplate and also on to swivel linkage to return the throttles to idle position.

Thanks for all your help. Because I am not using the original air box I have to use K & N filters I have ti get the bracket that attaches underneath the weber to attach the cable. I am slowly getting there today I had most of it together just need to fit the radiator and get the fuel line sorted out then I can get it fired up. On that day I will make a video and post it on you tube.
Any pictures of a engine bay with weber set up would be most helpful
Thanks again

Here are a few pictures of the Weber linkage on my +2S130. The aluminium bar you can see in the lower part of IMG0052 anchors the auxiliary return spring I added to overcome a sluggish throttle return. I hope the pictures are clear enough to show the detail you are after.

Geoff, If your cable is long enough to go under the carbs Caterham do a neat bracket that bolts to the underside of the carbs & holds the outer casing and a throttle barrel that fits the carb lever which holds the nipple . Have a look at their online stores for parts 72165 (bracket) & 72168 (barrel).

Cheers, Brian.
