fuel odor, again

I placed several gallons of fuel into my new alloy fuel tank vented with Mocal breather vent valves.
I
Today, I had a very strong fuel odor in the trunk (boot). Apparently the Mocal valves only control fuel passing not also closed to the atmosphere as I originally thought.
I have contacted Mocal and asked for an explanation of the vent.
I have plugged the vent hoses as they exit the car.
If that is not a temporary solution to the odor problem I will unplug the vents and seal the filler cap vent. As the vent hose is 5/8" fuel line and new, I doubt the fumes are permeating through the rubber. The filler neck elbow is also new and installed correctly.
Its back too the drawing board. The fun of Lotus restoration

In an attempt to make my boot (trunk) free from fuel odor, I plan on re-attaching the vent hoses, gauge sender and rubber filler neck elbow using Hylomar blue. I am speculating that a "dry" rubber to metal fitting may be permeable to vapor leaks.
If anyone is still having fuel odor problems, it may be worth trying. Also a good time to replace the gauge sender gasket and rubber elbow. The Vent lines on an original car would be difficult to replace but a worthwhile venture.
