well with winter on the way its time to create an air filter for the 7 ---after many years of tea bag air strainers I'm making a prototype for the 7 ---a peculiar and vexing challenge -----open to sensible and well thought out ideas ----ed ---

Those foam filters are ineffective unless they are the ones you soak in oil. They don't stop fine dust particles.

I worked for an engine shop many years ago and every engine that came in with dry foam filters had bad scoring in the bore. I had them on my car at the time and soon got rid of them.

Paper element filters are much more effective but need to be protected from rain. The Pipercross filters may be good too being modern, I have never really had a good look at them.

welll there they are ---allow use of the stacks ----sprayed wd40 to catch what it can on the filter material -----its got to better than tea strainers in the air ----ed

That should work much better than the gauze.

Not sure how they will work if you get caught in the rain and they soak up water. Water won't hurt the engine when it is hot though. If anything it helps keep the carbon deposits down.

WD40 will evaporate over time. I have foam socks on the ram tubes on my race car and I get air filter oil from a motorcycle shop.
