Choke cable swop

....I thought the cable might be soldered in place but heat didn't budge it. It's probably swaged in place. Anyone have success with this operation?

Looks about the same as my choke knob/cable attachment. Although I haven't tackled it yet, it appears that one needs to 'open' up the sides, extract cable with attached nipple, inset new cable and attached nipple, re-squeeze the sides.

When you say that heat did not release the cable are you thinking soft lead solder or hard silver solder.
If you can see what looks like solder then you should be able to scrape some away with a craft knife. If it is silver solder then it will only clean it not scrape any away.
Silver solder melts just below red heat.

A word of caution, just be careful when heating a cable up to melt solder, if it is not soft solder and requires more heat, the heat can travel down the shaft and melt the knob ………happened to me once !

I seem to remember that there was a hole on the underside where the cable is attached, level roughly where the nipple is, Drilling through this hole may remove most of the nipple enabling you to file the remains away to extract the cable. When reinstalling depending on the new cable used, you may need to file the new nipple down gradually till its a tight fit in the tubular part prior to soldering. I also seem to recall that one car of mine had a single thick wire inner cable rather than a multi strand cable.

Yes, cable is crippled in the stem of the handle. I slotted the stem along the groove and removed the old cable and replaced it with a length of new cable (steel, not stainless) and soldered it in place and then made sure the solder conformed to the shape of the groove.
