Oil pump pressure release valve.

I have recently started my engine after quite a number of years. Unfortunately the oil was pushed out through the oil filter rubber seal. I found the pressure release valve had stuck. I removed the pump and the valve was stuck solid I released it, reinstalled the pump started the engine which then blew out the oil again! The pump was new when fitted, has any one any ideas please.
Thanks Robin

Which valve was stuck? There should be two - one oil pressure relief valve and one oil filter bypass valve.

Did you check whether the oil filter bypass valve was stuck or not? Or does it even have one as some modern pumps have this blanked off. If it doesn't have one or it was stuck closed and the pressure relief valve was also stuck closed again for whatever reason after freeing it off (ie unable to regulate pressure) that would likely blow the filter.

Did you remove and inspect the pressure relief valve plunger or just work it back and forth to free it off ? I had the same issue and found the plunger was rusted.
Also if the oil pressure was high enough to blow out the filter seal your oil pressure gauge is probably damaged too unfortunately.

When I removed the filter both valves were free. I put the filter back on and again blew out oil again. The engine is only running for a few seconds.
I am finding this problem both odd and very frustrating as I have not had anything like this before. Yes blowing oil out of rocker covers due crankcase pressure but this has me flummoxed.

I think you have already identified your problem - you said in your initial post you found the pressure relief valve was stuck and you freed it off and refitted the pump. If you did not strip the pump and establish why it had stuck it has likely stuck again. As shown above, my relief valve plunger had rusted after a long period of lay-up, yours may well be the same.
