Good day to you all!
I am about to order a protractable aluminium breather tube from one of the forum members and was asked what type of engine block I have, L or 711? The car is a 1968 +2 but I think the engine might have been changed, at least it have a Big Valve top end. Engine/block number is 24415 as read above the right side engine mount. How do I find out what type of block I have.

That Engine No will have been produced around the time the Big Valve was introduced into the Elan Sprint and Plus2S 130, so clearly the block came from a later car to yours. I do not have that number against either car type in my register, but other 244## engine numbers date from late 1970 to early 1971.
You should be able to read the block casting numbers which will indicate what type of block it is.
In the photo below you can see my engine block number, beginning with 701M, on the exhaust side of the block.

Hi Tim
Thanks for clarifying, it said M701 on mine, was quite hard to see with the engine in the car and exhaust manifold doing it's best to obscure but after some fiddling about I could finally read it..
Again, Thanks!
