Mystery Bolts.

PostPost by: dlb123 » Wed Jan 24, 2024 11:04 am

Hi there. Hoping someone may be kind enough to help me. In my box of engine bits I've found four unidentified bolts. I assumed they were for a pulley or something of that nature but it would appear not.

I've included photo with pitch and length.

Thanks a lot for any suggestions!

Going by memory which is rather fallible, they might be the bolts which fasten the water pump pulley to the waterpump Boss.

They look like fine threads - the only fine threads I can think of in the LTC are the con rod bolts and the three through-bolts and nuts for the water pump front to back covers - they're definitely not any of those bolts!

Water pump pulley to flange are supposed to be 1/4" UNC.

They're known as "worry-bolts" - they're only in the box to worry you, they serve no other purpose!!

Haha thanks a lot for the responses. I finally figured out they're from the gearbox mounting to chassis. I was somewhat reassured by the fact they had some muck / corrosion on them, and therfore assumed it was they would be external. Phew!

Thanks again.
